The CHARM Chief Wellness Officer (CWO) Network
The CHARM Chief Wellness Officer (CWO) network is the premier network for healthcare system and institutional chief wellness officers. This group, comprised of the nation’s leading experts in healthcare organizational and institutional efforts to address clinician and healthcare staff well-being, meet regularly to exchange best practices, hear from invited experts who are leaders in the field, participate in the development of scholarly deliverables, and engage in professional collaboration. This highly engaged group has already facilitated the growth and development of significant academic, educational, and perspective pieces and is arguably functioning as one of the few venues where such leaders gather to dramatically advance this field.
CWO NETWORK CRITERIA
CHARM reviews applications for our Chief Wellness Officer Network based on the following criteria:

- Has at least 50% protected time (from one funding source primarily) allocated for this position
- Reports to a Dean, President, CEO or other similarly positioned hospital/health system leader
- Has a constituency that is sizable (typically >500)
- Has a constituency that includes practicing physicians; often also includes physicians in training (residents, fellows, medical students) and in some institutions crosses clinical disciplines and/(e.g. APPs, RNs)
- Is integrated into organizational/system level leadership committees and strategy
- Oversees a team of direct reports and has a role that includes responsibility for well-being measurement (and drivers thereof) as well as responsibility for dissemination of such data across the organization and developing the organizational strategy/action plan to cultivate well-being and professional fulfillment
- These responsibilities are not folded into the responsibilities of existing other primary roles, such as CMOs, CQOs, CExOs, assoc deans faculty development, and has a title that reflects these dedicated responsibilities. (eg chief wellness officer, associate dean physician wellness, vice president physician/clinician well-being)
CHARM creates a space to move beyond organizational silos and build a collective vision for well-being. Each gathering centers well-being innovations, collaborations, and emerging best practices informed by a national group of expert leaders.”
